Jakarta – Prabowo Subianto at first confessed to being confused by the term ‘gemoy’ attached to himself when campaigning in various regions in the country. The number 2 presidential candidate felt astonished because he had no idea what ‘gemoy’ meant.
Prabowo revealed this experience during the #CloseTheDoor podcast with Deddy Corbuzier which was uploaded on Tuesday (13/2). While laughing, Prabowo even mentioned that many children now call him ‘Pak Gemoy’.
“I have no idea what gemoy means, where does it come from, but it’s okay,” Prabowo said while trying to hold back his laughter.
“Since when did you understand it, sir, gemoy?” asked the curious Deddy.
“Well, I understood it during this campaign,” Prabowo replied.
“Who was the first to tell you ‘gemoy’?” Deddy asked again.
“I don’t know. There were some mothers, from the beginning 1-2 called out ‘gemoy’, and it spread. Until elementary school children, when I go to the regions, (called out) ‘Pak Gemoy, Pak Gemoy’,” said Prabowo.
However, Prabowo admitted that he doesn’t mind whatever title the people give him. Prabowo sees it as a form of love from the public.
As for ‘gemoy’, it is a popular expression in society, especially among young people. The word ‘gemoy’ is a play on the word ‘gemas’ which refers to an expression of something cute and exciting.
In addition to being called ‘gemoy’, Prabowo also said that the public’s excitement is often shown through pinching and scratching directed at him. However, Prabowo is not bothered at all because for him, the actions are a sign of the people’s love for him.
“Wherever you go, sir, there are hundreds of thousands of people. When I see the videos, you are pinched by the mothers, pulled, scratched, surely. I’m curious, when you were pinched, did you think of pinching back?” Deddy said while laughing.
“I’ve been scratched often. This is just Betadine,” Prabowo said while pointing to the back of his hand.
“The clothes are pulled, the pants are also sometimes pulled, that’s why the belt has to be tight,” Prabowo said, greeted by Deddy’s loud laughter.
“But I know it’s meant well, I’m also touched. I thought, how? Why are they too hopeful from me? I was touched. Maybe they don’t realize it, they’re just excited,” Prabowo continued.
He admitted feeling very honored to receive the enthusiasm of the people. According to Prabowo, that’s what makes him always say thank you to the people in every region he visits.
“So I always say thank you. I always say ‘thank you for coming from afar, for standing for hours, waiting for me, wanting to greet me. And when I arrive, you welcome me well’,” Prabowo said. (SENOPATI)
