President Prabowo Subianto strongly criticized corrupt practices in Indonesia’s rice trade, pledging to take action against companies that manipulate and increase the price of subsidized rice. During the 27th anniversary of the National Awakening Party (PKB), he highlighted that these fraudulent activities result in annual losses of up to Rp100 trillion for the country. Prabowo pointed out that despite various subsidies provided by the government at different stages of rice production, some companies repackage the rice as ‘premium’ and sell it at much higher prices, impacting the people unfairly.
He revealed that 212 rice milling companies have been found guilty of such deceptive practices and emphasized the need for these companies to return their ill-gotten profits. Describing this behavior as criminal and a violation of the Constitution, Prabowo emphasized the detrimental impact of such actions on public services and the nation’s overall development. He made it clear that he has instructed the National Police Chief and the Attorney General to investigate, prosecute, and confiscate assets related to this issue, emphasizing that his actions are based on constitutional obligations to safeguard vital sectors for the state and the people. In conclusion, President Prabowo underscored the importance of upholding the Constitution and ensuring transparency and fairness in the rice trade to prevent further losses and promote the well-being of the Indonesian people.
