BGN suspends nutrition service in East Nusa Tenggara

The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has decided to temporarily halt the operations of Nutritional Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) following the discovery of subpar food in the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) Program. This decision was made in response to the need for a thorough investigation and testing of the MBG food samples in the laboratory, as stated by Redy Hendra Gunawan, Special Staff to the BGN. Collaborating with independent institutions, local health departments, and education departments, BGN is committed to determining the cause of the issue while closely monitoring the health of affected students. Expressing deep regret, Redy conveyed apologies on behalf of the National Nutrition Agency to all those impacted by the incident, reiterating the agency’s zero-tolerance policy towards negligence in the procurement and distribution of MBG meals. Emphasizing the top priority of ensuring the health and safety of all MBG recipients, BGN is working in coordination with local government authorities to swiftly and effectively address the matter. In light of the incident, corrective measures have been initiated, such as stringent partner screening, enhanced hygiene standards, improved supply chain monitoring, and the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) based on expert recommendations. Looking ahead, BGN is dedicated to upholding food safety standards within the MBG Program to deliver its benefits without compromising health.
