Vinales’ collaboration with three-time MotoGP world champion Jorge Lorenzo seems to have cooled down after starting over the winter. Lorenzo, who initially worked with Tech3 KTM rider Vinales in a coaching role during pre-season, was noticeably absent from the Brazilian Grand Prix at Goiania. This absence, coupled with Vinales’ decreased enthusiasm compared to pre-season testing, suggests that their relationship is not as active as it once was.
In an interview with Motorsport.com, Vinales mentioned that Lorenzo’s absence was not a significant issue and that their work together was primarily focused on winter preparation. However, after finishing last in the race, Vinales seemed more dismissive of the attention surrounding their partnership, stating that he has more critical matters to address.
Vinales also suggested that logistical and financial considerations might have played a role in Lorenzo’s absence, indicating that Tech3 might not cover Lorenzo’s travel costs for flyaway events. Lorenzo is expected to continue his role as a commentator for Spanish broadcaster DAZN and is not likely to return to the paddock until the Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez.
Furthermore, uncertainty surrounds Vinales’ future with KTM, as the manufacturer had considered promoting him to its factory team for the 2027 season. However, given the challenging start to the season, those plans are currently on hold, leaving Vinales in a precarious position regarding his contract for the upcoming years. Although neither party has confirmed a split, sources in the paddock suggest that the collaboration between Vinales and Lorenzo may have already ended.
